Google Play Screenshot Requirements (2026)
Google Play Console won't let you publish a listing without valid screenshots, and it rejects anything that breaks its size or format rules. Here's exactly what Play expects.
Accepted Formats
- File type: 24-bit PNG or JPEG
- No alpha channel — transparency is not allowed. Flatten onto a solid background before exporting.
If your export tool produces PNGs with transparency, Play will reject them. (Screenshots built on a solid background color are always safe.)
Size Rules

That last rule catches people most often. A 1080×2400 screenshot is rejected, because 2400 ÷ 1080 = 2.22, which is more than twice the shortest side. Keep the ratio at 2:1 or narrower. Standard sizes like 1080×1920 (9:16) and 1080×2160 (18:9, exactly 2×) are within bounds.

You must supply at least 2 phone screenshots to publish. Tablet screenshots are optional, but without them your listing shows a "designed for phones" note on tablets.
Promotional Eligibility
To be considered for featuring across Google Play, provide phone screenshots that are at least 1080 px on the shorter side at a 16:9 or 9:16 ratio. Exporting at 1080×1920 meets this automatically.
Screenshots vs. Other Play Assets
Screenshots are only one part of a Play listing. Don't confuse them with:
- Feature graphic — 1024×500 px, a separate banner asset (not a screenshot)
- App icon — 512×512 px
- Video — an optional YouTube link
