App Store Connect Screenshot Requirements (2026)
Before you upload to App Store Connect, here's every screenshot rule you need to know — formats, dimensions, what's required, and what causes rejections.
Accepted File Formats
- PNG — recommended. Lossless, supports transparency.
- JPEG — accepted. No alpha channel. Use for photos, not for screenshots with text.
- HEIC — accepted on newer Xcode uploads but not via the web interface. Stick with PNG.
Max file size: 500MB per screenshot. In practice, PNGs from a screenshot tool are 1–5MB.
Required Screenshot Slots
You must supply screenshots for at least one slot before you can submit:
| Platform | Minimum Required Slot |
|---|---|
| iPhone | 6.9" Display (1320×2868 px) |
| iPad (if supported) | 13" Display (2064×2752 px) |
| Apple Watch (if supported) | 40mm or 44mm display |
| Apple TV (if supported) | Apple TV |
If your app supports iPad, the iPad slot is required — you can't skip it with iPhone-only screenshots.

How Many Screenshots Can You Upload?
- Maximum: 10 screenshots per device size per localization
- Minimum: 1 screenshot per required slot
- Shown in search results: The first 1–3 screenshots (depending on device)
Most developers upload 3–5. The first screenshot is the most valuable — it's shown in search before the user taps through.
Common Rejection Reasons
Wrong dimensions. App Store Connect is strict — even 1 pixel off will cause an error. Always verify the output dimensions before uploading.
Double-resolution images. Exporting from a Retina Mac without --force-device-scale-factor=1 produces 2x images (e.g., 2640×5736 instead of 1320×2868). App Store Connect rejects these.
Screenshots show UI not in the current version. If your screenshots show features that have been removed, Apple may flag this during review.
Promotional text in screenshots. Apple discourages screenshots that are primarily marketing text. Short headlines with context are fine; full-page ad copy is not.
Tips for Smooth Uploads
- Export at exactly the right dimensions. Use a tool that handles this for you rather than guessing in Figma.
- Use PNG, not JPEG. Better quality for text and UI elements.
- Keep the first screenshot your strongest. It's the one shown in search results.
- Don't include real phone status bars with signal/battery — they date your screenshots.
App Store Screenshot Maker exports PNGs at exact App Store Connect dimensions automatically. No DPI math, no rejected uploads.
